Profile

Johan van Slooten (1968) has been working as a journalist since the mid-1990s, having worked for local, regional and national news media in the Netherlands. He joined Radio Netherlands Worldwide in 2008 and has been with South Asia Wired since mid-2010. He is a producer, reporter and presenter of our weekly South Asia Wired radio show.

He is also a freelance music journalist, having written many articles and books on pop and rock music. He hosts a weekly radio show on a regional radio station in Amsterdam where he specialises in pop and rock music of Dutch origin. He is regularly consulted by the Dutch media about anything related to music, most notably when it comes to the pop charts. He also edits RNW's weekly Music Monday feature, which presents the best in Dutch contemporary music.
Johan particularly enjoys listening to Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, U2, The Waterboys, The Beatles and whoever is at number one next week.

He lives with his wife and four children in the small coastal village of Urk, 90 kilometres north east of Amsterdam.
