Lawmakers in France's lower house on Thursday adopted a draft law to ban the denial of the Armenian genocide despite fierce warnings from Turkey of a diplomatic crisis and economic consequences.

The vote, by a show of hands, saw the bill approved by a large majority of the about 50 deputies present in the National Assembly, with about a half-dozen voting against.
