Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez said Tuesday he will likely undergo a fourth round of chemotherapy in his battle with cancer, and was confident it would be his last.
Chavez, who had a cancerous tumor removed June 20 in Havana, has insisted he is cancer-free and convalescing, but little information has been released about the type of cancer he has or his medical condition.
"We are very probably going for a fourth round of chemotherapy, probably in the coming days," Chavez, 57, said in a telephone interview with the official VTV television.
He concluded his third round of chemotherapy at a Venezuelan military hospital on September 2, and said at the time it was still to be decided whether he would have a fourth round.
He underwent his first two rounds in Havana where doctors discovered the cancer after operating on the Venezuelan president for an abdominal abscess.
Chavez, who has been in power since 1999, said he was confident the fourth round would be the last and that he will be "fully recovered" to serve as host of a summit of Latin American and Caribbean leaders December 2-3 in Caracas.
The summit, which marks the creation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), was originally scheduled to be held in July but was postponed after Chavez learned he had cancer.
