Wrapping up Milosevic trial

Published on : 19 December 2005 - 12:00am | By International Justice Tribune
More about:

Nearly four years after former Serb president Slobodan Milosevic went on trial, the judges look determined to conclude the case. The famous video showing the Scorpions unit killing six young men from Srebrenica in 1995 [IJT-27] will not lead to a re-opening of the prosecution case in the Milosevic trial. The judges ruled on December 13 that this evidence lacked substantial value. In a separate decision on the same day, the Trial Chamber refused to allow Milosevic more time for his defence, stating that Milosevic "deliberately used the time available to him so that at the end of that time he would have led little or virtually no evidence on the Croatia and Bosnia part of the case, thus seeking to provide a foundation for a request for additional time." In a third major decision that day, the court ruled that the severance of the Kosovo case [IJT-37] would not save time. They still intend keep to the March 2006 deadline for the conclusion of the defence case.
