War crimes trial for Demjanjuk in Germany

Published on 13 July 2009 - 3:16pm
More about:

Munich's public prosecutor's office says war crimes suspect John Demjanjuk will be tried in Germany for being an accessory to 27,900 murders during the Second World War.

Dozens of witnesses say he was a guard at the Sobibor Nazi death camp in Poland during the war. Over 260,000 people were killed at Sobibor.

Demjanjuk, who emigrated to the United States after the war, is now 89. After years of court battles, he was finally extradited to Germany from the US in May.
