Dutch police arrested one of Scotland Yard's most wanted criminals in a neighbourhood in the Dutch capital Amsterdam today. The fugitive will be extradited to Britain.
Anthony Mills, 41, is suspected of being a major player in an international drug smuggling ring and has been linked to a cartel that earned millions of euros per year. The drugs were allegedly shipped to Britain hidden in shipments of Dutch flowers.
Police appealed to the public to help them track down six fugitives suspected of being in the Netherlands. Mills would have been the seventh fugitive on the list but he was removed because police were close to picking him up. The arrest came when police stopped a car in a neighbourhood in Amsterdam-West.
British police say Amsterdam is popular with British criminals as most people speak English and it has established drug and prostitution networks. Amsterdam detectives have been cooperating closely with colleagues from Great Britain and have arrested 26 fugitives over the last 18 months.
