The trail of former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic, will start in late August, announced President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Patrick Robinson. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council session in New York Wednesday, Robinson said he expects the trial to be completed by 2012.
The president added that Ratko Mladic should soon be arrested. He stressed the urgency of arresting the two remaining war crimes fugitives, Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic.
Karadzic faces 11 charges, including crimes against humanity, violations of the law of war and genocide for allegedly masterminding Bosnian Serb atrocities during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.
He was arrested in Belgrade last year, after almost thirteen years in hiding, living under a false identity as an alternative medicine practitioner. He faces a life sentence if convicted on all charges.
