Total escapes a Burmese complaint

Published on : 17 March 2008 - 1:00am | By International Justice Tribune
More about:

On March 5, the Brussels Court of Appeals rejected a complaint filed by Burmese victims against oil multinational Total [IJT-75]. This court ruled that the criminal proceedings were exhausted as they had gone before the Court of Cassation in March 2007. Alexis Deswaef, one of the plaintiffs' lawyers, described the decision as "surrealistic" given that it had been the Constitutional Court which had earlier ruled that the complaint should be examined.
