Tony Blair defends support for Iraq invasion

Published on 29 January 2010 - 1:16pm
More about:

The cross-examination of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair by the Iraq inquiry commission is in full swing. The hearing will take several hours.

The commission is investigating the former prime minister's unconditional support for the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Mr Blair was smuggled into the conference centre where the hearing is being held via a side entrance, as angry protesters blocked the main entrance.

At the start of the hearing, Mr Blair argued that the sanctions against Saddam Hussein's regime did not work, and that military intervention was therefore inevitable. He also said that the terrorist attacks in the US on 11 September 2001 were of great influence on the views of the British government. In his opinion, the attacks changed London's appraisal of the danger for the world formed by extremists.

Norhtern Ire is Ire and therefore no military personnel from the UK should be there. { Mr. Blair, don't worry about those blokes! You and Mr. Bush did what was right concerning Iraq.
