Tension between China and internet giant Google has increased. Beijing has now warned the internet company - most famous for its search engine - that it has to comply with Chinese law even if it pulls out of the country.
In January, Google threatened to close its Chinese operations - namely the special site Google.cn - after the Google-email accounts of Chinese dissidents were hacked.
Google is now refusing to filter the search results as demanded by the Chinese authorities. According to British newspaper the Financial Times, there is a 99.9 percent chance that Google will indeed leave China.
China has an extensive system to censor the internet. Services such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are even banned. Twitter co-founder Evan Williams says it will be impossible for China to keep up its censorship in the long run.
