Swine flu likely to spread faster in summer

Published on 22 July 2009 - 8:16pm
More about:

EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou warns that swine flu is likely to spread faster in the coming weeks due to people's travelling during the summer holiday.

She said influenza A (H1N1) had now infected more than 17.000 people in the EU, with 29 fatalities in the UK and four more in Spain. She stressed, however, that swine flu is not deadlier than other strains. On Tuesday, the World Health Organisation announced that over the past two weeks the number of people killed by swine flu across the world had risen by 300 to 700.
