Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she does not want her party to take part in the national elections that will probably be held this autumn.
The Nobel Prize winner says the electoral regulations are unjust. One of them states that a political party may contain no member serving a prison sentence. For 14 of the past 20 years, Ms Suu Kyi has been under house arrest. In 2009 she was sentenced to three more years' house arrest after an uninvited man from the United States made an illegal visit to her residence.
In her statement, Ms Suu Kyi made it clear she could not give orders to her party.
