More about:

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has indicted 21 people for crimes committed at Srebrenica, the only episode in the Balkans wars it has ruled genocide. They have all been arrested and transferred to The Hague.

Latest Convictions:
- On June 10, 2010, seven former high-ranking Bosnian Serb army and police officers received sentences ranging from five years to life in prison.
Among them were Vujadin Popovic, chief of security of the Drina corps of the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) and Ljubisa Beara, security chief of the VRS' main staff --both sentenced to life in jail, notably for genocide.
- On May 9, 2007, two former Bosnian Serb army officers, colonel Vidoje Blagojevic and co-accused Dragan Jokic were sentenced on appeal to 15 and nine years respectively for crimes against humanity and war crimes.
- Radislav Krstic, the general who directed the attack against Srebrenica was the first Bosnian Serb to be found guilty for aiding and abetting genocide. He was initially sentenced to 46 years in prison but that was reduced to 35 years on appeal in April 2004.
- In 2003, two high-ranking Serbian officers, Momir Nikolic and Dragan Obrenovic pleaded guilty to persecution and gave detailed accounts of what happend in Srebrenica, used as evidence in subsequent trials. They were sentenced to 27 and 17 years respectively. Nikolic's sentence was reduced to 20 years on appeal in 2006.

Ongoing Trials:
- The trials of ex-Bosnian Serb political leader Radovan Karadzic and Bosnian Serb former top army general Zdravko Tolimir, notably on genocide charges, are underway.
Judgement is pending for the former chief of the general staff of the Yugoslav army (VS) Momcilo Perisic, accused of having given logistical aid to the Bosnian Serb Army at Srebrenica.
Prosecutors on March 29 asked for life imprisonment for him.
The trial of ex-Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic, arrested on May 26 and transferred on May 31 to The Hague, is not expected to start for several months.

Died During Trial:
- Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic died in prison on 11 March 2006 and was also on trial for genocide at Srebrenica.
