Southern Sudan presses for Kony’s arrest

Published on 24 September 2009 - 8:22pm
More about:

During a visit to The Hague, envoys from the southern Sudanese region of Western Equatoria have appealed for the swift arrest of Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Kony.

Governor Jemma Kumba and Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala said reconstruction in the area could only begin properly when Kony is behind bars.

Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army are reportedly terrorising the far south of Sudan. The International Criminal Court in The Hague issued a warrant for his arrest four years ago.

On Thursday Mr Kumba and Mr Kussala visited the aid agency Cordaid and met with Dutch MPs. On Friday they will argue their case with the European Union in Brussels.
