A single charge against Thomas Lubanga

Published on : 11 September 2006 - 12:00am | By International Justice Tribune
More about:

As of August 28, three years after the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced that he was looking into the crimes committed in Ituri in the northeast part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and two years after the official opening of the investigation, which was said to be "at a very advanced stage" in December 2005 [IJT-39], Thomas Lubanga is the only Congolese citizen indicted and he is charged only with enlisting child soldiers. "The office of the prosecutor is in no way saying other offences were not committed. But the quality of the evidence we have is also important," explained deputy prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on the BBC.
