Should Bush, Cheney and Wolfowitz be tried by an international court?
There should be a way to judge the architects of the invasion in Iraq by international criminal law. The impunity of people who are accused of the most heinous crimes against humanity is declining the last couple of years. The permanent International Criminal Court, supported by 106 countries, was erected in 2002. It is mandated to prosecute those persons who are 'most responsible' of crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.
Slobodan Milosevic, Charles Taylor and Saddam Hussein had to defend themselves before international tribunals, while Gerorge Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz have nothing to fear. Belgium lawyers have tried to indict them in 2003, but investigations never started because the United States stepped up the pressure to halt criminal investigations. Spain also tried to prosecute Chilean dictator Pinochet without success.
If there is no official legal way to judge the policy of the American political leaders, should we not look for alternative methods?
