Sarkozy's popularity set to fall in poll

Published on 21 March 2010 - 4:57pm
More about:

The second and last round of voting for the regional elections is taking place in France.

Around 44 million voters will elect a regional council.

The ballot is being seen as an indication of the popularity of President Nicolas Sarkozy. In last week's first round, Sarkozy's centre-right party lost many votes. It is also expected to do badly today.

The left-wing opposition appears to be heading for a win. Jean-Marie Le Pen's extreme right-wing Front National is also likely to gain votes.
