Published on 6 July 2009 - 6:39pm
More about:

At a meeting in the Russian capital Moscow on Monday, US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed an agreement to reduce their nuclear arsenals. They will cut the number of weapons by 1500 in the coming seven years.

At the same meeting, President Obama and President Medvedev also reached an agreement about the current conflict in Afghanistan. The US will now be permitted to use Russian air space to transport troops and materials to Afghanistan.

In addition, they agreed to set up a committee to improve relations between both countries. The committee will examine what both countries can offer each other with regard to the environment and trade, as well as in the war against terrorism and drug trafficking.

President Obama arrived in Moscow on Monday. He will remain there for three days.
