Rotterdam doctors refuse to name riot suspects

Published on 5 December 2009 - 11:36am
More about:

Rotterdam hospital doctors are refusing to reveal the names of patients involved in beach riots in Hoek van Holland.

The doctors say they are bound by their professional secrecy. In August one person was shot dead by police and six others were injured during the riots. Police investigating the violence say those treated in hospital include key witnesses and possibly a number of culprits. Several local politicians say doctors invoking professional secrecy are going too far. The Public Prosecutor expects to conclude the criminal investigation at the end of this month.
