Pope advocates global economic regulator

Published on 7 July 2009 - 2:57pm
More about:

In a letter to the world's Roman Catholics, Pope Benedict XVI has called for a new body to be set up to regulate the global economy.

In his latest encyclical entitled Caritas in Veritae - or Charity in Truth - the pope says the current economic crisis should be seized on as an opportunity to build a new economic system, with more solidarity with the poor.

The latest encyclical ran into some practical problems. The Latin translators were casting around to find words for modern-day concepts such as "tax haven" and "merchant bank".

Discussion

Dr. Cajetan Coelho 9 July 2009 - 4:51pm
Greatest good for the largest number of people for the longest period of time is yet to see the dawn of day on our Planet. Let's wish ourselves well as we march ahead in solidarity and determination to wipe out every tear from every eye. May the Giver of life bless our efforts.
