The rift between the two government parties in Zimbabwe has widened further following remarks about Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai made by President Robert Mugabe.
 

Speaking mostly in Shona, he called him "insincere" and "not mentally stable". He added that the prime minister could not be trusted when he has "one foot in" the government of national unity and "one foot out".
 

President Mugabe's Zanu-PF and Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC have been in government together since February his year, but there has been little sign of unity. Two weeks ago Mr Tsvangirai ended all forms of cooperation following the arrest of a prominent member of the MDC for allegedly planning an attack on President Mugabe. The MDC leader says he regards it as a political trial. He has also indicated that he sees little point in the government of national unity any more and could not rule out new elections.
