The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe says it is disappointed by the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan. According to a statement, the poll failed to meet OSCE standards.
Preliminary results give President Kurmanbek Bakiyev a landslide re-election victory but OSCE observers say voting was not free and fair. There are said to have been irregularities in the electoral lists and it is reported that some people cast multiple ballots.
The OSCE says Kyrgyzstan has made less progress than had been hoped. President Bakiyev was first elected four years ago when the poll was also criticised for not being free and fair.
