After the trials for the Dujail massacre [IJT-61] and the Anfal campaign [IJT-71], the trial for the suppression of the Shiite insurrection in southern Iraq in 1991 opened before the Iraqi High Tribunal on August 21 in Baghdad. This trial joins fifteen former leaders in Saddam Hussein's regime accused of crimes against humanity, including three who were already sentenced to death during the Anfal trial.
