US President Barack Obama will not meet the Dalai Lama during the Tibetan spiritual leader's visit to the United States.
The Dalai Lama will arrive for a five-day visit to the US on Monday. This will be the first time in 18 years that he is not received by a US president.
Mr Obama is concerned about upsetting Sino-US relations ahead of his summit meeting with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao in November. The White House and a spokesperson for the Dalai Lama say the decision was a mutual one.
