New Tamil leader arrested

Published on 7 August 2009 - 8:43am
More about:

The new leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Selvarasa Pathmanathan - better known as K.P. -  has been arrested and is now in the hands of the Sri Lankan authorities. The Sri Lankan media reported that the Tamil leader was arrested in Thailand and deported; however Thailand says the arrest took place in Malaysia.

K.P. is the successor to Vellupilai Prabhakaran, who was killed by Sri Lankan forces when they overran the Tamil Tiger's last stronghold in May. K.P. had vowed to revive the movement and avenge the death of his predecessor.
