Bourgmestre of Gisovu

Aloys Ndimbati is accused of Genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of Article 3 common to the Geneva conventions and of additional protocol II. Charges

  • According to his indicment, at various locations in April, May, and June 1994, and often in concert Aloys Ndimbati brought to the area of Bisesero members of Gendarmerie National, communal police of Gishyita and Gisovu Communes, interahamwes and armed civilians, and directed them to attack the people seeking refuge there. In addition, at various locations and times, with others, he personally attacked and killed persons seeking refuge in Bisesero.
  • Throughout this time, Aloys Ndimbati and others, did not take measures to prevent the attacks, and after the attacks, he did not punish the perpetrators.

Identity

  • Aloys Ndimbati is believed to have been born in the early to mid-1950s in Gitabura sector, Gisovu Commune, Kibuye Prefecture. Aloys Ndimbati was appointedas Bourgmestre of Gisovu Commune in 1990. Aloys Ndimbati acted as Bourgmestre untilthe end of July 1994.
