As expected, the Health Council of the Netherlands has recommended vaccinating children between the ages of six months and five years against pandemic influenza A(H1N1).
Public Health Minister Ab Klink has accepted the recommendation. Babies under the age of six months will not be vaccinated against pandemic influenza A (H1N1), known in the Netherlands as Mexican flu, as the vaccine has not been tested on children that young.
However, the health ministry has decided to offer a vaccination to parents and siblings of very young babies. The health council has recommended that women who are more than four months pregnant also be vaccinated.
