The Chinese news agency Hinhua reports report that 4.6 million people do not have enough drinking water in the north of the country because of a drought which began in July. Four million heads of cattle also lack sufficient drinking water. China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters says the drought is threatening nearly nine million hectares of crops.
The authorities warn that the drought could spread to central and southern regions which are experiencing high temperatures and less rainfall.
Jilin is one of the affected provinces
