The former United States Secretary of Defence, Robert McNamara, has died at the age of 93.
Mr McNamara served as Defence Secretary from 1961 to 1968, under both President John F Kennedy and President Lyndon Johnson. His time in office was dominated by the war in Vietnam and he was seen by many as the architect of the strategy that despatched 500,000 US troops to fight there.
After quitting his position in 1968 due to differences of opinion with President Johnson, he moved to the World Bank, where he served as president for 12 years.
