Lower bonuses for Goldman Sachs heads

Published on 6 February 2010 - 12:42pm
More about:

The CEO of the United States bank Goldman Sachs will receive a relatively low bonus this year.
The bank announced on Friday that Lloyd Blankfein - as well as several other of the bank's managers - will receive nine million dollars in shares. This contrasts with the almost 70 million dollar bonus Mr Blankfein received at the end of 2007: the highest ever bonus paid out on Wall Street.

Like many US banks, Goldman Sachs is currently under tremendous political and public pressure to tackle its high bonus culture. This has been prompted by public anger at the fact that bank bonuses remain high, even though the banking sector received huge sums of money to rescue failing banks during the recent economic crisis.
