Lebanon's Hizbollah slams 'Zionist' Anne Frank

Published on 6 November 2009 - 1:49pm
More about:

A private English-language school in Lebanon's capital Beirut has banned a textbook which uses passages from The Diary of Anne Frank, after the Hizbollah movement kicked up a fuss.

Hizbollah's Al-Manar television station said the book promoted Zionism and that the dramatic and theatrical way the story of Anne Frank was told was dangerous. The broadcaster warned that a Zionist invasion of Lebanese education was underway.

Last month, the Shiite group attacked another textbook being used by a leading Beirut school. Hizbollah and the Palestinian Hamas group were labelled terrorist organisations in the book.
