Israel has fiercely criticised the British courts for issuing a war crimes arrest warrant for former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni. The Israeli government dismissed the court's ruling as "cynical" and warned that it would do nothing to help Britain's role in the Middle East peace process.
The warrant, issued by a London court on Saturday, was revoked on Monday when it was confirmed that Ms Livni would not be visiting Britain as planned. It related to Ms Livni's role in Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip last December and January and was issued in response to a request by lawyers representing the victims' families.
An estimated 1400 Palestinians were killed during the Israeli offensive and another 5500 were injured.
