Iraq Sunni leader killed at mosque

Published on 12 June 2009 - 5:14pm
More about:

The head of Iraq's biggest Sunni bloc in parliament has been killed at a mosque in the capital Baghdad.

Harith al-Ubaidi was shot by a man wielding a pistol, who then threw a grenade at him. The gunman was shot dead by a security guard. It is feared that the killing will spark a new wave of sectarian violence between the Sunni minority and the Shiite majority.
