Indonesia to remove Obama statue

Published on 5 February 2010 - 3:41pm
More about:

A statue of US President Barack Obama as a boy will be removed from Menteng Park in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

The move comes after more than 50,000 people signed an online petition to have the statue removed because they felt the US president has yet to make a significant contribution to the Indonesian nation. The two-metre statue will be moved to a local primary school in the neighbourhood where Mr Obama spent part of his childhood in the 1960s. The US president and his wife Michelle are to visit Indonesia next month.
