Hostages seized as Pakistani army HQ attacked

Published on 10 October 2009 - 8:33pm
More about:

Suspected Taliban fighters have made an armed attack on army headquarters in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, close to the capital Islamabad. Six soldiers and four attackers were killed.

Several attackers managed to flee the scene, taking with them ten to 15 military hostages. However, they are now surrounded by the armed forces and steps are being taken to free the kidnapped soldiers.

The attack comes a day after a suicide bomber killed nearly 50 people in a busy market in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
