Harsh weather lashes Switzerland and Germany

Published on 6 March 2010 - 10:42pm
More about:

Heavy snowfall in northeast Switzerland has resulted in hundreds of traffic accidents, most of them in the canton of Zürich. Bus traffic in the city of Zürich itself has been brought to a standstill. There have also been dozens of accidents in the cantons of Bern and Aargau. So far there have been no reports of any deaths or serious injuries.

In Germany, however, the severe weather has claimed three lives and left dozens of drivers injured. Overnight snowfall across much of the country has left many motorways and local roads slippery or impassable. Passengers at the airports in Munich, Hamburg, Hanover and Bremen have all had to deal with flight cancellations and delays.
