Germany has issued an arrest warrant for Argentina's former dictator General Jorge Videla on suspicion of murdering a German man.
German media name the man as Rolf Stawowiok, who had been missing for decades until his remains were found in Argentina last year. The autopsy revealed he had been shot dead.
The 84-year-old former general ruled Argentina between 1976 and 1981. During that time, up to 30,000 people, most of them left-wing opponents, were kidnapped or killed. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1986 for human rights abuses.
In 1990 General Videla was pardoned, along with other senior officers, by President Carlos Menem. In 1998 an Argentinian judge placed him under house arrest. He was transferred to a military prison near Buenos Aires in 2008.
