Former minister arrested

Published on : 3 March 2008 - 1:00am | By International Justice Tribune
More about:

On February 18, Callixte Nzabonimana was arrested in Kigoma, Tanzania, and immediately transferred to the ICTR, where he is accused of genocide. The 55-year old former Rwandan minister of youth and sports during the genocide had been sought since 2001. His arrest is the second important arrest in four months for the international tribunal. These two arrests may make it even harder for the ICTR to finish its trials by the December 2008 completion date. The ICTR still counts 11 defendants awaiting trial and 13 on the run.
