First Tamiflu failure in the Netherlands

Published on 4 November 2009 - 9:58pm
More about:

The National Institute of Public Health (RIVM) says that, for the first time in the Netherlands, the antiviral drug, Tamiflu, has had no effect on a patient infected with swine flu.

Most people infected with the A(H1N1) virus which causes the flu (known as Mexican flu in the Netherlands) show immediate improvement after receiving Tamiflu. The person concerned did not recover at all.

Worldwide, there have only been 39 cases of flu patients failing to show any improvement after taking the antiviral drug.
