On November 18, a jury at the Memphis federal court sentenced the former Salvadoran colonel Nicolas Carranza to pay 2 million dollars in damages for his responsibility in the acts of torture committed while he was in office. Charges were brought against Carranza, the former Vice-Minister for Defense in El Salvador, by five Salvadoran plaintiffs (IJT-35). Four of them won their case.
