European commissioner sketches plans

Published on 6 January 2010 - 10:28pm
More about:

Neelie Kroes, who hopes to become the next European commissioner for ICT and telecom, would push for quick internet links throughout Europe. She wants all Europeans to have access to broadband internet by 2013.

She sketched her potential plans as ICT commissioner in a written answer to Euro MPs ahead of Thursday's session on her suitability for the post. She has already said she will keep a close eye on charges for cross-border mobile telephone calls, text messages and smart-phone internet.
