Egyptian fishermen overpower Somali pirates

Published on 14 August 2009 - 4:57pm
More about:

The crews of two Egyptian fishing boats in the Gulf of Aden have escaped from Somali pirates after overpowering their captors and killing two of them.

One pirate was seriously injured and later washed up on a Somali shore. The 34 fishermen are said to be doing well and are making their way to Yemen. The kidnappers had held them hostage since hijacking their ships in April. An Italian boat and its 16 crew also seized on the same occasion were freed five days ago.
