Dutch royal family visits Apeldoorn

Published on 6 June 2009 - 1:25pm
More about:

The Dutch royal family visited Apeldoorn on Saturday.

The traditional Queen's Day celebrations, which take place every year on 30 April, were cut short this year after a man drove into a crowd of spectators watching the royal bus pass by. The driver and seven spectators died in the failed attack.

Queen Beatrix was accompanied by nearly the entire family. During the visit they followed the same programme they would have done on 30 April. They viewed an exhibition commemorating the late Princess Juliana - the queen's mother - at Het Loo Palace. The exhibition was organised to mark Princess Juliana's 100th birthday on 30 April 2009.
