Dutch parliament puts 300 issues on ice

Published on 11 March 2010 - 10:23pm
More about:

The Dutch parliament has compiled a list of over 300 issues which should not be dealt with by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s caretaker government.

The latest list of controversial matters does not differ much from a list already drawn up by the parliamentary committees.

However, a debate on curbing teenage drinking will go ahead now.
In addition, the parliament has decided that consensus statute laws should be dealt with to avoid delays in the process of state reform.

It was already clear that controversial issues like the raising of pension age, the purchase of the Joint Strike Fighter, the introduction of a kilometre charge and a cap on golden handshakes would have to be passed on to the next government to be dealt with.

The Dutch three-party coalition government fell in February after the Labour Party.
