Dirk Scheringa, the director of the troubled DSB bank, is currently meeting the heads of the country’s top five banks in the offices of the Dutch central bank. Ministry of Finance officials are also present. It’s possible he may still hold talks with other interested parties.
Earlier today, Mr Scheringa had talks with Minister of Finance Wouter Bos. The talks centred on ways of saving the bank. Mr Scheringa preferred not to say too much about the meeting, but did say the two men had had "a constructive conversation."
Mr Scheringa, who said he saw more chances for his bank than last weekend, added that DSB was "a sound company busy making a changeover." Mr Bos thought there were few possibilities for the bank but said that Mr Scheringa would be given every opportunity to convince him.
The talks followed a decision by a bankruptcy court in Amsterdam to postpone its decision on the fate of DSB until midday on Friday. This is to give the bank time to investigate the feasibility of a takeover. However, if no takeover candidate is found by then, the court will declare DSB bankrupt.
