Death sentences for killing of albino

Published on 24 September 2009 - 2:13pm
More about:

A Tanzanian court has sentenced three men to death for killing a 13-year-old albino boy. They wanted to sell his corpse to witchdoctors who use the body parts of albinos to make magical potions.

People in some parts of Tanzania and Burundi believe these potions can make one rich and happy. In Tanzania, around 50 albinos have been killed since 2007. Dozens of people have been arrested, but this is the first time suspects have been convicted. In Burundi, 13 people have been convicted for killing albinos.
