Day of protests against Iranian government

Saturday was an international day of protest against the regime in Iran. Altogether there were demonstrations in 80 cities, including New York, Geneva, Vienna, Tokyo, Sydney, London and Stockholm.

In Amsterdam, 1000 people gathered on the city’s Museumplein. They were addressed by the human rights activist and Nobel Prize winner Shirin Ebadi.

In Bishkek, the capital of the Central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan, all seven participants in a mini-demonstration were arrested by the authorities.

In the Iranian capital Tehran, hundreds of people took to the streets to protest, but were violently dispersed by the authorities.
