Cuba says it does not intend to return to the Organisation of American States in the short term.
On Wednesday, at a meeting of the 34 member states in Honduras, the organisation ended its decades-long suspension of Cuba. The country was expelled from the OAS nearly half a century ago, after the coup that brought Fidel Castro to power.
Cuba's parliamentary chairman, Ricardo Alarcon, said Havana considered the move a triumph for the country, but said it had little interest in joining the group.
Should Cuba want to rejoin, it would have to make an official request to do so. It would also have to commit to the organization's charter, which states in part that democracy is essential to stability in the region.
The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, said he thought Cuba's return to the group would not happen overnight.
