Calls for calm after North Korean missile tests

Published on 4 July 2009 - 7:31pm
More about:

Russia, China and the United States are calling for calm following North Korea's latest missile tests. North Korea launched seven missiles from its eastern coast on Saturday morning.

Russia and China are calling on Pyongyang to return to the international negotiating table. The US is urging the North Korean regime not to let tensions in the Korean peninsular escalate further.

Neighbouring South Korea says the test involved scud missiles, with a range of 500 kilometres, as in tests earlier this week. It is thought North Korea is trying to provoke the US during its 4 July, Independence Day, celebrations.
