Britain bans Islam4UK

Published on 12 January 2010 - 12:43pm
More about:

Great Britain's Home Secretary Alan Johnson says the government will ban the radical Islamic group Islam4UK on the basis of counter-terrorism laws.

The government accuses the group of having links with extremism but the organisation describes itself as a think-tank and a lobby group. The ban will also apply to the group's other name al-Muhajiroun.

Islam4UK's founder Omar Bakri Muhammad has warned Mr Johnson that the ban will only increase the group's popularity by forcing it to go underground.
